Learning the art of acceptance will help you move faster to a solution. When we face difficult challenges we sometimes try to resist the challenge. We may not even notice our resistance. Thoughts of resistance can sound like the following; “I shouldn’t feel this way. I can’t believe this is happening. Why can’t I feel better. I have nothing to be depressed about. I will never amount to anything.”
Most negative thoughts we have towards challenges are forms of resistance. These resisting thoughts are natural to have, but not helpful. They are not thoughts that will lead to positive growth. It seems like the harder you resist the challenge, the more energy and power the challenge has to grow. Conserve your energy for finding solutions.
We sometimes grow up with the idea that challenges are conquered with more power and strength (some are). However, I encourage you to look for victory to come in ways that may not appear like the conventional power and strength model.
Acceptance does not mean you are ok with your current situation or resign to allow the struggle to conquer you. Make this commitment, “I will conquer this problem.” Acceptance means you stop resisting to your struggle. First simply acknowledge the struggle’s existence and effects on you. Resistance does not lead to change. Resistance keeps the problem front and center. Think about it this way, the problem is most powerful when you attack it straight on. The problem is least powerful when you attack it from behind. Acceptance allows you to move around the problem undetected to look for its weak spots. Once you find the weak spot, then attack. Every problem has many weak spots (solutions). Conserve your energy with acceptance then hunt down solutions and attack.
