You probably familiar with the personality types introversion and extroversion.
Carl Jung was one of the first to begin studying these two personality ideas. He defined extroversion as an outward turning of energy and introversion as an inward turning of energy. Extroverts direct their energy to their surrounding environment. Their thoughts, feelings and actions are influenced by external factors. Introverts’ energy is more directed and influenced by their inner reality. Extraverts recharge their energy levels with more social interaction whereas introverts recharge their energy levels with more solitude and introspection.
Before we move on it is important to understand that extroversion and introversion exits on a spectrum. That means neither is better than another and we are capable of accessing each form of energy if needed for certain situations. However you can see in our world how each personality gets more or less attention depending on the circumstance. For example, extroverted energy may get more attention at a social gathering or party whereas the introvert can settle into the background.
The key is to appreciate both personality types and develop an understanding of how each type helps strengthen our relationships, organizations, community and world.
