You and I will either make our future happen, or our future will happen to us.
I want to create the best future possible, a future full of adventure, love, laughter, joy and greatness. As much as possible, I want to make sure I am doing my part to make this type of future happen. When I allow the future to happen to me, the results have not been good (i.e. physical health declines, mental positivity diminishes). I do not want to be a victim to the challenges of life, but a victor of life’s challenges. It is easy to be tossed back and forth by the storms of life. I can quickly believe I am powerless to change the areas of life I in fact have power to change.
I have found that each day requires me to be prepared to make my future happen. I need to have a game plan and strategy to ensure that I am intentionally creating my future. Here are some of the ways I prepare for each day that have helped me in making the future happen rather than allowing the future to happen to me.
- Life Map
- Create a map for your life with clear markers to gauge your progress. Hopefully your map excites you when you look at it.
- Daily Recalibration
- Write down my vision and mission statement.
- Write down my core values ( the words that define my character, thoughts, beliefs and behaviors).
- Write down my top goals.
- Write down the three things I am most grateful for from the previous day.
- Drink Water
- The first thing I do each morning is drink at least a liter of water with lemon.
- Our bodies are thirsty after a night of rest.
- Drinking water is an amazing way to wake your body up.
- Solitude, Silence and Breathing
- If you witnessed my solitude and silence time you might think nothing is happening, but this is one of the best ways to allow the inner chaos to calm down so that you can become clear on creating a better future.
- Learning to breath properly keeps your brain functioning properly when the storms and chaos of life happens. I take multiple breaks throughout the day to intentionally breath and practice great breathing.
- Productivity System
- I try to live by the David Allen’s Getting Things Done principles.
- The basic idea is that your brain is for having ideas not holding them, so have a system that tracks everything you need to do.
